AP Physics C Update for the week of November 13, 2000 Journal Prompt for the Week of November 13, 2000: Why do you think I want you to create an APPC web page? When do you plan to make your first one? Why? Your 2nd Quarter Mid-Term Portfolio is due Friday November 17, 2000 by 3:30 PM. This Portfolio should have the Checklist in the front, and then the 7 items in order, for this Portfolio, including the Complete Journal Writings (1-13). Each item should have a unique Cover Instrument (CI). In the back of your Portfolio should be your 1st Quarter and then 1st Quarter Midterm Portfolio, in order. Your Grade for the Midterm in this class will come from this Portfolio. It might be wise to have me look at one or two items in your Portfolio before you finish it since you will not be able to correct this Portfolio. All items in this Portfolio should come from the Fodder list. Place the Portfolio IN MY HAND when you are finished with it. Last week you should have done the following: - Written in your Journal. - Started Quiz Chapter 11-10-00. - Derived and Verified that Number 9, Examination II is Maximized. - Turned in Chapter 4 problems - Part I Pages 73-75: 2, 5, 9-12, 18-20, 23-25, 28, 31,37. - Turned in APPC 1998 MG 59/60. Near-Earth Asteroids and Comet Impacts will be featured in the Fall 2000 Barringer Lecture. Learn about the ideas are behind current research into near-Earth asteroids and comets, explained by Lucy-Ann McFadden at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13 in Giffels Auditorium in Old Main. McFadden, of the University of Maryland, works with two teams investigating comets and asteroids with unmanned spacecraft. One spacecraft, Shoemaker-NEAR, is approaching the end of its spectacularly successful mission to investigate the near-Earth asteroid Eros at close range. The next Physics Lunch and Learn Lecture will be on Thursday, November 16. Come to room 3202 (and bring your lunch!) to hear Professor Art Hobson of the University of Arkansas speak on "Strange Realities: the Big Bang, and Quantum Interconnectedness." All students, faculty, and staff are welcome. The talk will begin shortly after lunch begins, so please enter quietly if it is already in progress. If you don't have a Graphing Calculator, you need to get one. Explore the APPC web page. The Lunch Schedule for the 3 Computer Labs: Lab 5 (3201) Monday and Wednesday; 1st Floor Lab (1107) Tuesday and Friday; and 2nd Floor Lab (2102) Thursday. If you have questions or need some help, please see me, or one of your fellow students. See the Syllabus for information on how to get outside of class help. DAY -- David A.
