Ferrofluids!!

Ferrofluids are magnetorheoglical fluids. They are colloidal suspensions of magnetic particles which have interesting properties when in a magnetic field.

The spikes in many of the pictures are aligned along the magnetic field lines. Some of the interesting properties include that they increase in viscosity and density when in the presence of a magnetic field and form into these strange shapes.
