Performance Assessment FALL99
Algebraic Connections
Assessment Introduction
Algebra is
everywhere! For example, suppose you are working as a travel consultant. One thing you
would want to know is the relationship between weather patterns and how tourists spend
their money. What would be important to know?
This
assessment asks you to investigate the relationship between weather characteristics and
money in some city or tourist area. You will collect your own data, from the Internet, for
a city of your choice (with approval from Mr. Young). The reason you are doing this is to
help you learn more about how mathematics works in the real world and how to explain
important relationships using numbers graphs and formulas (see the BIG 4). Each step is
important so dont go on to the next step without having finished the previous one.
Before you
finish this assessment, check your work against the Rubric
(Scoring Guide).
