Subject: AlgConn Update for the week of October 4, 1999 Date: Sun, 03 Oct 1999 18:18:28 -0500 From: "David A. Young" AlgConn Update for the week of October 4, 1999 9. Journal Prompt for the Week of October 4, 1999: Compare and Contrast the Portfolio that is due on Friday, October 8, 1999 and the Pre-Portfolio. Your 1st Nine Weeks Portfolio is Friday October 8, 1999 by 2:30 PM. This Portfolio should have the Checklist in the front, and then the 7 items, in order for this Portfolio, including the Complete Journal Writings 1-9). Each item should have a unique Cover Instrument (CI). Then in the back the Pre-Portfolio should appear, in order. Your Total Grade for the nine weeks in this class will come from this Portfolio. It might be wise to have me look at one or two items in your Portfolio before you finish it. Most people now "understand" the Portfolio, so you could also check with your classmates to see how they are doing it. Don't forget that the Ability to Test Item must be Examination I which we are taking this week, and to get the full value of this item, which is 30% of your grade, you must Correct the items you missed, and Reflect on why you missed each item. All items in this Portfolio should come from the Fodder II list (below). Place the Portfolio IN MY HAND when you are finished with it. This week: # Take Examination I in the classroom on Monday and Tuesday. Get the attached file in your calculator. # Go to the Computer Lab: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (Lab #3, Room 2204). We will finish work that has been left undone to increase the Fodder, Correct and Reflect on missed Examination I items, and Construct your Portfolio. # Write in your Journal. The Journal will contain ALL your writings throughout the year. # If you don't have a Graphing Calculator, you need to get one. # Last week you should have turned in: 70 a,b Part II, Quadratics with GA, and the Guessing Game. # Please note that the announcements have a listing of which computer labs are open and when, and where you can locate Graph Links to use around the building. Fodder II: The following items qualify for use in your Portfolio for the 1st Nine Weeks, if you have done them and turned them in to be graded. Journal (writings 1-9) = Journal Examination I (with Corrections, and Reflections) = Ability to Test 70 a,b Part II Guessing Game (data and graphs) Quadratics with GA Emailed calculations of your Pre-Portfolio grades Work from Lab Visits I, II, III, IV, V, or VI (one item) PreTest or Quiz I OOB 2000 Part I Other work of AlgConn as you think appropriate (and have approved by me). If you have questions or need some help, please see me, or one of your fellow students. See the Syllabus for information on how to get outside of class help. -- David A.
