AlgConn Update for the week of December 6, 1999 19. Journal Prompt for the Week of December 6, 1999: What one thing would you like to see on the AlgConn Final? Why? One thing you don't want to see on it? Why? Your 2nd Nine Weeks Portfolio is Friday December 10, 1999 by 2:30 PM. This Portfolio should have the Checklist in the front, and then the 7 items, in order, including the Complete Journal Writings (1-19). Each item should have a unique Cover Instrument (CI). Then in the back you should have the 1st Nine Weeks Portfolio, and then the Pre-Portfolio, in order. Your Total Grade for the nine weeks in this class will come from this Portfolio. It might be wise to have me look at one or two items in your Portfolio before you finish it. Most people now "understand" the Portfolio, so you could also check with your classmates to see how they are doing it. Don't forget that the Ability to Test Item must be Examination II which we are taking this week, and to get the full value of this item, which is 30% of your grade, you must Correct the items you missed, and Reflect on why you missed each item. All items in this Portfolio should come from the Fodder III list (below). Place the Portfolio IN MY HAND when you are finished with it. Fodder III: The following items qualify for use in your Portfolio for the 2nd Nine Weeks, if you have done them and turned them in to me to be graded. Journal (writings 1-19) = Journal Examination II (with Corrections, and Reflections) = Ability to Test Guessing Game II Quiz II TI vs. GA Web Page Summary Dead Dice Dead Dice with GA Newton's Cool Newton's Cool on TI-Interactive! Practice 25 Indy 500 Quiz III Slope from Graph Your Algebraic Connections Web Page - See guidelines. Other work from AlgConn as you think appropriate (and approved by me). This week: # Finish Examination II. # Write in your Journal (1-19 makes this complete for the Portfolio). # We will meet in Lab 1 (Library Annex) on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. # We will meet in Lab 3 (Ms. Davis) on Wednesday. # You should have your Finals Schedule now. We will have the Final in Lab 3 (Ms. Davis) at the assigned time. If you think you might qualify to be exempt, see me and we can discuss it. If you do apply, and qualify, for exemption from the AlgConn final, you may still take the test and use the score only if it improves your grade. # Check your grades on the Grade Viewer. Remember that your TOTAL grade in this class for the 9 weeks comes from your Portfolio. Look at your assignments. # If you don't have a Graphing Calculator, you need to get one. # Please note that the announcements have a listing of which computer labs are open and when, and where you can locate Graph Links to use around the building. If you have questions or need some help, please see me, or one of your fellow students. See the Syllabus for information on how to get outside of class help. DAY -- David A.
