Fall Final Fodder
The questions from Examination I and II and the Portfolios will be the key source of
questions on the Algebra 1 Fall Final Examination. In addition you may see one or two
questions inspired by the ACTAP, and the Texas Algebra Exit Exam. Recall that we will meet
in the SLOOW Computer lab and that you will need a graphing calculator for the test. Also
please note that this grade will be1/5 (20%) of your semester average.
Test schedule for Algebra 1 Fall 98 Finals:
4th at 9:50 on December 16, 1998
5th at 8:15 on December 18, 1998
6th at 9:50 on December 18, 1998
Stuff you will possibly need to do on the Final:
- Measure something
- Know my full email address and yours
- Know how to get to the FASST/Algebra web page
- Average a Portfolio and semester grade
- Deal with a single list of data (n, max, min, mean, median, mode, range, sum)
- See and explain a pattern in a single list of data
- See and explain the pattern from a paired set of data (models from the 7 parts of
algebra)
- Calculate Percent Error
- Convert units. (seconds to years, mm to cm, etc.)
- Make a Histogram
- Make and label a Box-and-Whiskers plot
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide Integers
- Take an equation (like Y = 2X + 4) and a) produce a table of values for X and Y; b) plot
the ordered pairs on graph paper; c) enter the data into your calculator; d) make a
Scatter plot; and e) identify the pattern in the data
- From a set of real data (like Body and Claw): a) get the data into your calculator; b)
make a Scatter plot; c) identify the pattern in the data (Linear, Quadratic, or
Exponential); d) get the equation (by Regression or guess and test); and e) use this
equation to predict values for X and Y
- Calculate or otherwise identify the Slope and the Y-Intercept of a Linear Model
- Distribute and simplify equations (like y = 2(4x-3) + 2 to become y = 8x-4)
- Solve an expression (like 3x-12=2x+10) using at least two of the 4 methods (Old Way,
Graph, Table, and Solver).
- Demonstrate your ability to work with technology (email, attachments, Graphical
Analysis, Word, Excel, Graph Link, etc.)
