Grade Analysis

Algebra 1

You have explored the scores for Mr. Young’s Algebra 1 students on their Pre-Portfolio (_LAPORT) and the first Examination (_LEXAM1). Now we need to look at the grades made on the 1st Nine-Weeks Portfolios (_LPORT1) and compare them to the Pre-Portfolio grades.

Run the GRADES.83p, or GRAD82.82p program on your calculator, if you do not already have the required lists in your calculator. These programs can be located on the FASST/Algebra web page.
Examine the list and report the patten that you observe.
Sort the list with the 1st Nine-Weeks Portfolios grades (_LPORT1) and examine this list in the list editor. Report the pattern you observe now.
Report the following in a table:

n	Max	Min	Mode	Median	Sum	Mean	Range

How often did the mode(s) occur?

Test the mean by dividing the sum of the scores by the number of scores. How close were you?

Construct a Histogram for this data. Record the image and the WINDOW.

Compare this graph with the graph of the Pre-Portfolio scores.

Make a Box and Whiskers graph of the Pre-Portfolio grades and the 1st Nine-Weeks grades on the same screen. Report the WINDOW and identify the 5-values obtained by Tracing on each graph (use the up and down arrows to switch graphs). Record the graph.

Compare the scores on the two Portfolios. Explain.
