Activity Overview |
This activity explores the equivalence of algebraic expressions in
expanded and factored form, using patterning with CAS to expose
commonly held student misconceptions. More precisely, the activity
speaks to the following curriculum expectations: expand and simplify
second-degree polynomial expressions involving one variable that
consist of the product of two binomials or the square of a binomial,
using a variety of tools and strategies. |
Before the Activity |
Download the attached PDF and look over the information on the first
few pages. Download and distribute the attached .tns file for use
during the activity. A .tns file containing expected student results is
also available for download.
During the Activity |
Discuss the material from the activity pages with students as needed.
After the Activity |
Encourage students to summarize what they have learned from completing
