Valerie’s Website

ACHOO ( bless you)

Hi, I am Valerie  Cook, a senior in High School, I created this web page to edify and educate the masses. This is also an assignment for my pre-calculus class, but that is immaterial. I am reachable at vrc15@hotmail.com or dyoung@fayar.net , please don’t abuse these addresses.

Mr. Young  gave information on this at this site http://www.fayar.net/east/teacher.web/Math/young/PRECAL/Achooo.pdf

This should help my fellow Pre-Calculus students remember the assignment.

This is the problem represented for my web page.

And here is the graph and its data

ANALYSIS:

1. Along the horizontal axis the numbers represent; the numbers on the

vertical axis represent __the number infected_________.

2. In your own words, briefly describe the shape of this graph.

__It raises rapidly then tapers off until there is no rise then it rises again more slowly

3. Refer to the graph of the classroom simulation and describe how the

disease is spread.  The disease spread rapidly at first then slowed to a crawl then everyone was infected

4. Predict the number of trials necessary to run in order to infect the whole

class.  12

5. How do you think increasing the number of people will affect the shape

of the graph?  Not at all with more numbers it will be the same general shape with just a sharper and longer increase in the beginning and a longer tapering off

CONCLUSION:

1. Write a paragraph explaining why you think the number of people being

infected by a disease seems to “level out” over a period of time.

___because some people are anti social and all the other people are already infected and the infected people don’t often come in contact with the uninfected person

2. In a real world situation, what factors increase the rapid spread of a

communicable disease? What factors reduce its rapid growth rate?

__large gatherings increase it, antisocial tendencies decrease it

3. What other situations might be expected to demonstrate a similar

behavior? Explain.

__sale growth in Wal-Mart is similar, when a new product comes out every body wants one and tell others about it until eventually every one who knows about and wants one has one and there are only a few that don’t know of them or don’t want one left

This technique could be used to predict the sales growth of businesses around the world.  Some such address are listed below:
