• Plot y-position vs time (the velocity and acceleration plots will be too messy in most cases)
Your plot should look like this:




You can interpret this graph as either having a slight acceleration throughout the entire time (and fit it with a polynomial) or assume that the module accelerates for the first part of the movie (0 to .8 seconds) and then rises at a constant velocity after that.

To fit sections of this graph (to test the second hypothesis),

  • zoom into the first 0.8 seconds by holding down the control key and dragging a box around the data you want to look at.



  • Fit the data with a second order polynomial by clicking on the fit button .



If this assumption is correct, then the astronauts are experiencing acceleration about 8.4 m/s^2 during the lift off, which is a reasonable value (about 6 moon g's!).
